Dear RM Owners/Operators RMOOA is looking to commission a new production run of complete Quill Drive assemblies. One of my stated goals for taking on the role of spares officer, was to help improve the availability of out of production spares and difficult to get hold of parts. Recently Andrew Morgan and myself had a face to face discussion with the owner of Imperial Engineering about many items. We will publish the details of this once I have had all the relevant information back from them about the meeting. However historically there have been various amounts of discussions on the forums over time about the need or lack of availability of Quill Drive Units. So we asked Imperial Engineering to do a costing to have a production run of complete Quill Drive units made for us. They have now come back to us. If we can achieve an order of 30 units or more then they will do a one off run for RMOOA. The total cost to manufacture a complete new Quill Drive unit assembly has come out to £380 per unit total. Therefore, we need to know is there a genuine demand to have a these assemblies remanufactured? So what I need now, is for you to e-mail me if you wish to buy a Quill drive assembly (I need your name, phone number, email address and number of units required). If we get enough numbers to commission a new run of Quill drives we will push ahead with the order. If there is not the demand for them, then RMOOA will put the idea of manufacturing these particular items to bed. If an order goes in RMOOA will also order a small number themselves to keep as stock for any demand in the future. If you place an order now, you will not be committed to the order. At present all we need to know if there is sufficient interest in having these items remanufactured. Once we have enough to put in a bulk order, I will come back to the interested parties and ask for their payments and only then place the order. So now it is up to the membership to decide if we proceed or not. So if you would like to order a unit please contact me ASAP please. Closing date for any orders will be the 30th April. After that we will decide if we proceed or drop the idea. I look forward to hearing from you. If this and other small projects are successful then with the experience we gain we can start looking at larger projects if required. Please contact me on alun.mitchell@ntlworld.com if you wish to place an order or discuss this further. Many thanks Mitch (RMC1462) Sales Officer |
